Meet Our Interns - Catherine J. Perez (Legal Intern)

Updated: Jul 22, 2020

The amount of work Good Counsel does would not be possible without our team of interns from around the world, with each intern bringing new experiences and skills to the team. Welcome the fourth part of our weekly series, where we introduce our summer interns, one intern at a time.

Why are you working with Good Counsel?

I entered Law School with an open mind, determined to learn about the many ways the law impacts the everyday person. My goal is to work in a field of law that will allow me to work directly with clients and the community while continuously applying the legal skills and knowledge I have gained through my formal education. After meeting Elizabeth and learning about GCS’ mission to educate and empower nonprofits, social entrepreneurs and asylum seekers through legal services and education, I knew GCS was the perfect fit for both my professional and personal goals.

What kind of work do you do with us?

As a legal intern, I am primarily responsible for the Social Impact portfolio. As such, I research and prepare white papers on topics that are key to a successful social impact business including corporate structure, equity agreements, convertible notes, opportunities for financing and additional streams of revenue for social enterprises and non-profit organizations. These business and legal primers will help GCS continue providing low cost and holistic services that further client success.

Tell us about your favorite Good Counsel experience.

In June, Good Counsel Services was invited to attend IntegrateNYC’s ‘Vision for the Future’ Gala at the Centre for Social Innovation and I was able to attend the event on behalf of GCS. IntegrateNYC is a youth-led organization that stands for integration and equity in New York City schools. As a native New Yorker who attended public school, I recognized the importance of the initiative and was moved by the passion and participation of the many student leaders in the organization. Attending the gala, helped further my understanding of how crucial GCS services are to important and impactful non-profit and social enterprise organizations.

We have helped over 170 nonprofits and small businesses, and through your support, we can reach even more social impact organizations. We appreciate any donation you can give!
