Intellectual Property Legal Intern
Alessia Asaro is a final year law student at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan, in Italy, and she is currently writing a master's thesis on copyright law about derivative works. Focusing on intellectual property, she is interning at Good Counsel to gain practical exposure to US IP law and learn more about the non-profit sector.
Viola is a multilingual law and criminology student with a keen interest in pro bono and social justice work. She developed her communication and advocacy skills through representing her school, Griffith University, in various national Moot Court competitions and has had the privilege of mentoring first-year law and criminology students with the transition to university, encouraging students to set goals and take an active role in their career development and being an inspiring role model. With a strong commitment to pro bono work, Viola has reviewed wrongful conviction cases for the Innocence Project in Australia and made recommendations for the retesting of DNA evidence. Also strongly committed to giving back through charitable activities, Viola is involved in the Salvation Army Australia, running Aid for the Blind OP Shop and participating in local fundraising events to help the homeless, sick children, and girls in developing countries.
Having recently graduated high school in the UK, Isaac is excited to be interning in New York during his gap year. Isaac looks forward to commencing his legal studies at the London School of Economics later this year, but in the meantime is exited to learn about the legal issues that start up NGOs and social entrepreneurs face. Previously working with NGOs in the UK has meant that Isaac has witnessed the legal hurdles that NGOs and their clients frequently face first hand, and is very keen to support NGOs, understanding their integral role within our society. Despite being from the UK, Isaac is fascinated by the US legal system and is keen to learn as much as possible about it and how it relates to UK and EU law so that he can work on cross border transactions in the future.
Giulia is in her last year of law school at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan in Italy and she also began to learn U.S. law while studying abroad for a semester at UC Berkeley. During her studies, she has specifically focused on international law and is interested in applying for an LLM within the next year in the hopes of working in this field in the near future. She also has a passion for working in the non-profit sector and previously interned at Keren Or Inc., an international non-profit for blind children.
Financial Resource Development Interns
Chief of Staff and FRD Intern
Rochelle is currently a junior studying economics at Cornell University, hailing from a town next to Princeton, New Jersey. At Good Counsel, she's worked both in financial resource development and serves as the chief of staff for the summer interns. In college, Rochelle writes for her school's newspaper, serves as a resident advisor, and volunteers with her community service fraternity. Besides these commitments, Rochelle fills her time with countless podcasts, fangirling over The Federal Reserve, and failing to complete crossword puzzles.
Senior Operations Director and FRD Intern
Sommy is currently a Graduate student of Public Administration in the City College of CUNY. At Good Counsel, Sommy worked as Senior Operations Director/Financial Resource Development. As an international student, Sommy is privileged by studying in Iran, France, and the U.S. She has a deep commitment to serving society through volunteerism and she is an ardent advocate of the fight against child poverty. As a former Graduate intern and event planner, Sommy has joined GCS to contribute to its core mission of holistic support for nonprofits and social impact groups. Singing, playing Persian music, creating delicate art objects, and running with NY Road Runners are her vocations.
Cindy is currently a junior at Cornell University double majoring in Economics and Statistical Sciences and comes from the suburbs of central New Jersey. Cindy developed her interest in social impact through joining her engineering project team at college that designs clean water technology for people in developing countries. Aside from being on a project team, she is also in a finance club, regularly volunteers with her community service fraternity, and serves as a design editor and webmaster for her school’s business magazine. During her free time, she spends too much time online shopping, rewatching Avatar the Last Airbender episodes, and taking photos for her VSCO account.
Arden is a Canadian student in the last year of her undergraduate studies at the University of Alberta. With a major in Political Science and a minor in English, she has taken an interest in United States politics and policy, specifically social spending. She wants to learn more about the governance and organization of non-profits, and is and enjoys engaging with their day to day financial workings through Good Counsel. She is interested in small business development and social impact organizations. Arden is passionate about women’s rights, and the need for educational equity. She believes Good Counsel is an excellent opportunity to interact with social entrepreneurs and hopes this experience will help her build her own foundation for social change.
Sherrie Zhuang is a junior pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota. She is passionate about studying economics and social related issues. She has marketing experience in both the education and hotel industries. She believes she has the combination of experience and enthusiasm to contribute to the success of Good Counsel Services as a marketing intern.
Riya was born and raised in Queens, New York. Having recently graduated from Townsend Harris High School, Riya is attending Princeton University in the fall where she plans to major in Economics and minor in Psychology. Riya plans to pursue marketing in her career because she is passionate about graphic design and communications, and interested in consumer psychology. Riya looks forward to learning about applying marketing strategy during her time at Good Counsel and hopes to work on giving some of Good Counsel's website and social media aspects a fresh look.
Karolin is a student from Germany, currently enrolled at the University of Kassel. She is doing her bachelor's degree in English and American Culture and Business. Having the opportunity of doing this internship with Good Counsel in New York, has not only broadened her cultural horizon but also introduced her to working in the marketing sector, which she thoroughly enjoys. As far as her future career is concerned, she hopes to start her master's degree next year and after that, she wants to work internationally with the opportunity to travel around. Traveling and learning about new cultures is her passion, which is why interning in the United States is such a great experience for her. During her internship at Good Counsel, she has already met many inspiring people, and working closely with the team and clients is something she enjoys most.
Pursuing a degree in Communications and Journalism from Marist College, Tess loves working and living in New York. Tess has worked for countless other nonprofits as a media, communications, and marketing intern as she loves the field of Public Relations and the nonprofit sector. She believes that the work Good Counsel is doing is genuinely making a difference in society and she hopes to cultivate her love for helping others and to continue impacting people in a positive manner.
Intern Chief of Staff
Hannah Sherman will be graduating from Carleton College in June of 2018. She is a Spanish major and also studies American Studies. During the school year, Hannah works as a manager in her school's dining halls and teaches beginner Spanish conversation classes. She is very excited about the opportunity to work with Good Counsel this summer and learn more about the non-profit world.
